Amanda Brittany

Hi!  Thank you for visiting.

I was born in Hitchin, and always found the town an interesting place. For that reason, I thought it might be nice to devote a blog to the market town, merging personal memories with history and Hitchin today.

My late aunt, Pat Gadd-Thurstance was a keen local historian and a founder member of the Hitchin Historical Society.  She wrote several books, including Hitchin Past and Present and Fifty Years of Change in Hitchin, and collected Hitchin postcards and trinkets for many, many years.

I guess you could say I've followed in her footsteps with my love of the town, as I wrote a book about Wilshere-Dacre School called Hats off to the Past, Coats off to the Future. I've also got a huge collection of Hitchin books and memorabilia.

If you have any memories or anything at all that you would like to share on this blog do email me at amandabrittany@aol.com I'd be delighted to hear from you.

I love to write fact (hence the blog) and I've had several articles published, but I also write fiction.  I've had 200 short stories published in magazines in the UK and globally.

My #1 bestselling, debut novel Her Last Lie, published by HarperCollins, and a psychological thriller set in Hitchin and Letchworth, as well as Australia, Sweden and Norway, is available on Amazon  HERE with all my royalties for e.books going to Cancer Research UK, in memory of my amazing sister.
